The outbreak of COVID-19 prompted remote working

COVID-19 – a pandemic. The novel Corona virus has killed thousands of people in China, USA, Italy, Spain, Germany, Iran and in many other countries.

As the COVID-19 virus spread across other parts of Asia, Europe and the Middle East, major companies like Microsoft, Hitachi, PayTm and the list goes on have started giving WFH to their employees. Workers across the globe are being asked to “self-quarantine” and use “Social distancing”. In the fourth week of March -2020, almost all the companies of India has started WFH for their employees to stop spreading COVID-19 and for the Nation’s Safety.

On 24th March-2020 at 8: PM, India’s Prime Minister-Narendra Modi announced that no one could leave home for next 21 days-the most severe step taken against the Coronavirus.

“Every state, every district, every lane, every village will be under lockdown.”

So, after the announcement of Prime Minister, Indian companies are having only two options that are:

  1. They can give leaves/small vacation to the employees
  2. They can ask their employees for work from home

What do you think is the best option?

Second one, right? Yes, Of course Work-from-home is the only option which allowe employees to stay at home, employers to continue their business, nation to stop spred of coronaviirus and will also save economy.

  • Work-From-Home can be beneficial to both Employer as well as Employees

As we all aware of the current situation of pandemic coronavirus, only home are safe now for all of us. So, Work-From-Home is the best option not only for the employee but for the employer too. To allow employees to WFM will be a win-win situation for both. Considering the current situation we can say that Coronavirus will be a long battle for the entire world. And WFH is an only option which can save the organizations and even to the nation’s economy.

Recent studies have supported the idea that working from home—for the right people—can increase productivity and decrease stress. Research also suggests companies that encourage and support a work-from-home protocol save money in the long run—an added bonus on the employer side.

WFH will be a great option when companies are having a shortage of talent. They can hire remote workers for a short or long time as per the requirement. To hire remote workers is easier as compared to a full-time employee. Hiring remote employer can save your recruitment cost, training cost, administrative cost etc. Boris Kontsevoi, founder and president of Intetics Co says, “In the tech sphere, the majority of the work happens on the computer and online. As a result, the location of the person is no longer as important, as long as they have a reliable Internet connection.”

  • But WFH is not that much easy.

For the Companies which are already having WFH policy, it will be easy for them to deal with this uncertain situation. But there are lots of companies which are providing WFH to their employees for the first time due to COVID-19 and even many employees are doing their work from home for the first time. So it’s difficult for both of them to get the maximum output from it.

  • Not Everyone’s Cup of Tea

WFH is not advisable for all. Your productivity and overall success as a remote employee depends entirely on your preferred work style, your personal preference, nature of work, the work-friendly environment at your home and your ability to concentrate in your work while you are working from home. That’s also the reason that it’s a difficult task for a company to get the same output from all the employees which is not practically possible. You can’t expect the same output from all as we’re all different. It’s not easy for some of us to work on the couch with a TV nearby, stay focused among all family members chattering with each other.

While In the same situation other employees are giving more output as they are enjoying their WFH. They are enjoying their work in Pyjama, sitting in the favourite corner of their house, with a cup of tea, with mental relaxation-no stress and by following their own schedule. They are more productive and happy while they are working from home. It stands to reason that, in the end, companies benefit from these remote employees by getting projects completed faster with fewer mistakes. It actually saves money in the long run for an employer.

Again, your success in working from home might depend on the type of work you do, your work style and of course your self-discipline.
